Huh

RE: So how bout them Cubbies? - redcoloredstar - 12-09-2008 10:27 AM

Don't talk about Chicago! It's a sore subject right now.

RE: So how bout them Cubbies? - beautifulghost - 12-09-2008 07:39 PM

it's a phrase used when you have nothing else to say, and that's how i feel about the board now. it's not home, it's uncomfortable and i'm not happy about it.

RE: So how bout them Cubbies? - Fiasco! - 12-09-2008 07:54 PM

It will pass.

In New York, it's How 'bout them Yankees?

I thought that was the general phrase everywhere!

Or, what about them apples?

I know. I was just joking. I just finished a class today that was all about Chicago, and during exams anything that makes me think of school is a sore subject.
beautifulghost Wrote:

Don't be sad! I still love you and look forward to hearing what you have to say, so what does the rest of the nonsense matter?(again just kidding):wink2:
RE: So how bout them Cubbies? - beautifulghost - 12-10-2008 11:33 AM

your sarcasm doesn't always come across via message board :)

just think though, soon school will be finished and you can enjoy your life again

and i guess it's probably just nearest baseball team in the region?

RE: So how bout them Cubbies? - Wished For None - 12-10-2008 11:59 AM

Haha, all I ever hear is how about them cowboys

RE: So how bout them Cubbies? - Trathena - 12-10-2008 01:51 PM

So, BG, can this thread be about random shit that doesn't belong anywhere else?

For example, I like the newest member's Net name: chair. I like that.

beautifulghost Wrote:

I suppose, but I thought that it was always about the Yankees because they're so popular!

Chair. Nice. simple, to the point.

I am sitting in a chair!

(this could be The Random Thought Thread - on the Dresden Dolls forum there's one for random posts, but they turn into discussions too and then more random posts get put in even in the middle of a conversation/discussion... it's cool!)

And it's kind of Platonic, right? As in the Ideal. There is a chair, and then there is a Chair. Cool, right?

I love the idea of this being the board's random thread. And the title is perfect because it's so random.
RE: So how bout them Cubbies? - Wished For None - 12-10-2008 08:19 PM

I currently have cupcakes. is that random? who wants a cupcake? ; )

i don't see why not....

For instance, i much prefer homemade "folgers" coffee to anything starbucks or other coffee shops makes...wierd?

RE: So how bout them Cubbies? - Trathena - 12-11-2008 07:27 AM

I've never liked coffee house coffee better than my own. I enjoy the flavored stuff sometimes, but it's always too sweet and fake tasting.

I grind my own and drink it every day on the bus. It saves me money, I think.

RE: So how bout them Cubbies? - Fiasco! - 12-11-2008 08:48 AM

I drank a lot of coffee.

I haven't slept. Yeah... I stayed up ALLLLLL night working on a paper. Now I just have a music quiz today, and then the final on Monday and thats it for me until Spring semester. then I graduate. hooray.

RE: So how bout them Cubbies? - Wished For None - 12-11-2008 10:27 AM

Coffee has never ever been able to help me stay awake, I could drink a big dirty cup of it and fall asleep soon after. it doesn't make me hyper either. and energy drinks are the same way... I either rule or suck, haven't figured out which yet.

this thread should be a sticky.

well done christy! cookies and margaritas? really? if you're going to be drinking alot, consuming things that will make your vomiting appear sicker than it already is, is probably not the best idea. :)

but you should def. celebrate!

Thanks for the advice BG. Luckily I didn't need it last night even though my maragrita was almost the size of my face! mmm margaritas

anyone else celebrating Boxing Day this year?

RE: So how bout them Cubbies? - redcoloredstar - 12-14-2008 09:27 PM

What on earth is Boxing Day? I've been meaning to ask you that. Am I the only person who's never heard of this?

It's a gift-giving holiday in Canada (and I think in other countries across the world), right?
RE: So how bout them Cubbies? - beautifulghost - 12-14-2008 11:55 PM

yep. "the day after Christmas" is actually a holiday! it's celebrated mostly in the British Commonwealth countries and in my home. :) basically to them it's an extra day off work and they use it to shop or hang out with family and friends....
I use it to have a dinner for my friends and give them gifts that night. it's always a good time!

here's a link if you want to read about the history of the holiday....cause i'm not going to type all that here....

RE: So how bout them Cubbies? - Trathena - 12-19-2008 08:11 PM

I'm drunk.

Also? I've had shingles for two weeks. Some of the worst pain I've ever been in. In my entire life. And I'm old. Today is the first day I've felt halfway decent in two weeks.

I'm also drunk.

RE: So how bout them Cubbies? - Fiasco! - 12-19-2008 10:31 PM

I saw Dee Snyder (singer of Twisted Sister) in the mall today... and as I was leaving the parking lot I saw him again, turns out he parked in the spot diagonally from me. :)

haha awesome, I'm pretty sure Willie Nelson has come in to where I work before. haha I've fed Willie.
RE: So how bout them Cubbies? - beautifulghost - 12-21-2008 10:04 AM

Hayley you should've said he blocked your spot and then starting singing "we're not gonna take it" :)

And Ashlee I'm assuming Willie Nelson comes in there 100x a day because of all his munchies??

The only "celebrity" i've seen outside in the real world, not in a venue, was Leann Rimes in the Nashville airport, her douchebaggy husband gave me the "don't even fucking try to come near us dude" look as i was sitting down minding my own beeswax. I just looked up when they were walking by and realized it was her...didn't say hi, didn't do a damn thing but head-nod acknowledge their existence.

Speaking of douchebags, who's the biggest celebrity douchebbag (musician, actor, etc) you've ever met???

RE: So how bout them Cubbies? - KidA - 12-21-2008 12:41 PM

My husband had a peanut butter sandwich with Barack Obama the other night, in one of his dreams. Does that count? ;-)
He dreams about Obama at least a couple times a week.

RE: So how bout them Cubbies? - Trathena - 12-21-2008 12:41 PM

I met Paul Schaffer while in New York. My friend asked if he'd take a picture with her, which he did, but it was obvious he just wanted to be left the hell alone.

I met Ralph Nader at a book signing. He was friendly.

RE: So how bout them Cubbies? - beautifulghost - 12-21-2008 12:44 PM

i hate paul schaffer, letterman would be so much more enjoyable without him chiming in.....

I meant celebrity DOUCHEBAGS, not just celebrities......i don't give a shit about the nice ones lol

Mine was Howie Day, complete dick.

RE: So how bout them Cubbies? - Trathena - 12-21-2008 05:02 PM

OK, then Schaffer fits the bill. Nader? Not so much.

Howie Day is a dick? Oh how disappointing. Care to give details?

I "met" Jon Crosby online once. Instant Message. He wasn't so much a "dick," but it got uncomfortable because he was very quick to take offense. And then he got dickish. :-)

RE: So how bout them Cubbies? - beautifulghost - 12-21-2008 10:29 PM

Why Howie Day is a dick
by beautifulghost

On July 1st 2005 I went to see Howie Day and Gavin DeGraw perform in concert at the Fraze Pavilion in Kettering, Ohio when at the merch table browsing the swag it was made known to me that if you purchased a t-shirt you could get a wristband for a meet and greet afterwards, since i usually buy t-shirts at shows i attend anyway, i did so without hesitation and looked forward to meeting these two talented fellas. After watching what i thought were 3 very good performances (the opener was Michael Tolcher) I went to stand in line for the m&g and the security announced that those who had Howie Day bracelets should get in his line 1st because Howie would only be signing 100 autographs and Gavin would be signing 300, also there would be no photos with or of Howie and nothing would be signed but the tshirt you purchased. So after the line shift i steadily made my way to the booth where lil Howie was sitting, when i was about 2 people away from him a younger girl runs back behind the table and her friend snaps a photo of them, Howie looks up very angrily and says to his manager "I thought i told you NO PICTURES, if this happens again i'm just gonna walk out" *cue my respect level for the little Maine native plummeting* so when i was my turn, he didn't even look up at me so i put my open hand out in front of his face in a handshake jesture and then he looked up, realized i was a dude and shook my hand. I said "Thanks for putting on a good show, i really enjoyed it" and he said "thanks man" I then asked him to auotgraph my shirt "to another fan of Jeff Buckley" because i knew he liked him too, he said "sure" and signed it.

I then walked over to the Gavin DeGraw line, and as i watched Gavin DeGraw for signs of assholeness i was pleasently surprised to see that not only was he not an asshole, but one of the nicest "famous" people i've ever seen, girls were taking pics with him, he was signing anything they gave him and every girl that came up to him, he gave a big smile and said "Hey Sweetheart" or "Hey darlin" or something of that nature. and they ate that shit up! So since he was so giving I got an autograph for a friend who couldn't come and i got a photo with him, i also thanked him for a good show and he seemed genuinely grateful. not only did he sign the 300 autographs they said he would, but he stayed until every last person that wanted to meet him did, regardless of whether or not they bought a shirt. That's the proper way to treat fans and human beings.

I think honestly that the only nicer bands i've met, meaning they go out of their way to be nice, are OURS and Plain Jane Automobile.

beautifulghost Wrote:

The biggest? hmm... I've met a lot.

I'd probably say biggest musician was Rivers Cuomo, backstage at a concert in 2002, I was his guest with a few other fans (from a message board/website contest)... and he didn't say anything except "hello" and later on asked where I was from. I played foosball against him.

Biggest general celebrity, I'd say Ron Jeremy.
RE: So how bout them Cubbies? - beautifulghost - 01-03-2009 05:03 PM

god i hate winter.....too damn cold

RE: So how bout them Cubbies? - Trathena - 01-03-2009 10:11 PM

And when it's wet, it the worst. We have severe weather alert right now because of the fog!

In other news, I spent most of the last three days reading the entire 15 vol. Battle Royale series. It was incredibly good!

Has anyone else read this series? It's my first manga.

RE: So how bout them Cubbies? - beautifulghost - 01-04-2009 11:47 AM

nope sorry, i've never read any magna....i do read other comics though...

RE: So how bout them Cubbies? - Trathena - 01-04-2009 11:56 AM

RE: So how bout them Cubbies? - Trathena - 01-04-2009 04:04 PM

But we still have to keep this thread for Random Shit (tm, me). It's just way to cool.

Did you not like it because it was violent or disturbing, or did you not like it because it was poorly written?
RE: So how bout them Cubbies? - lifer_refil - 01-06-2009 07:10 PM

Well, it's definitely not well written, but I like the concept...sort of, Greek gods in the modern day. It was a super-fast read and a semi-amusing book.

Spoiler:
The Underworld was just horrible. When a soul goes in, they are somehow pulled to this booking/employment place. The lady that dies is taken in and is told that souls that don't have jobs just lay around depressed, so it is best to have a job, for her placement she is asked what her experience is. She was a cleaner (house cleaner) and had a degree in linguistics. However, none of that mattered there because there was no dirt to clean and everyone could understand each other. Yada, yada, then they find that she loves playing Scrabble. They are SO happy and give her a job as a Scrabble opponent. Wtf? Architects and engineers have the duty of IMAGINING up the buildings, landscapes, sidewalks, etc. Which, I guess, is a different way to look at this place that we've "seen" or read about differently, so in that sense, it's alright.

RE: So how bout them Cubbies? - flowergirl11 - 01-06-2009 11:35 PM

Random shit...was watching the TV...History has this special on the so called IMPENDING APOCALYPSE...i cant stand mass media trying to take advantage of the new year by trying to create some stupid hysteria/fear...how irresponsible....that pisses me off more than ITS COLD OUT!!!

as for the cold, hey look at the bright side--at least gas is cheaper...

RE: So how bout them Cubbies? - beautifulghost - 01-07-2009 09:24 AM

agreed. and the people who see that Israel's at war and look at the world economy and say "it's the endtimes, biblical prophecy, blah, blah, blah" have used the same lines for every major event since the commonization of the torah/biblical texts....all the people who are waiting for jesus to come back are going to die waiting, it's not gonna happen.

the shitty thing is, people take religion WAY too fucking seriously, you can believe what you want, just don't kill someone because they don't agree with you.

and btw the gas prices are back on the rise......still not at $5 a gallon but they've risen 60 cents since the start of the new year

yeh-- the whole thing of killing in the NAME of religion is RETARDED !!! when in all the major religions, it is a major sin to kill. wouldnt it be so much easier to LITERALLY put the weapons down on BOTH sides ??? but no...we stick to who is wrong and right.

i have this ludicrouse way to avoid war --- play a VIRTUAL WAR and give over MONEY everytime there is a loser.... ha haha....isnt that pretty funny?

tonight was another armegeddon show....it was a good one in its entertainment value.... about CATACLYSMIC impending disasters --and how they were prophesized by ORACLES in the past...never knew there wa an ACTUAL MERLIN. that was news to me. but these shows are comical.... the oracle stated " There shall be BIRDS FLYING in the air and their talons will be of STEEL"

its like could you get any vaguer please...and then dissecting every cyllabal of something that really could apply to any damn event!!

SIGH !!! why does TV make us the DUMBEST COMMON DENOMINATOR...?

RE: So how bout them Cubbies? - Trathena - 01-19-2009 06:47 AM

I have a cat. I found her as a kitten, starving and covered in fleas and ear mites. I took her to the vet and he said 3/4 of her weight was worms. She was feral.

That was 16 years ago, and she's only about half-feral now.

Trathena Wrote:

starving and covered in fleas

sounds like my cat now lol.. I know, I know that's not funny. I need to get her some frontline and food today.

I found her as a kitty too, well she's still a kitten. I found her maybe 2 months ago, she was about a month old. one cold rainly night she showed up at my door so I let her in, she was VERY cuddly and tiiiiiiiiny. I thought she got lost from home because she was so friendly, but very underweight and as I said, starving and covered in fleas. so I let her crash my room for the night, fed her and let her be on her way the next day. didn't happen like that, she was at my window about a hour later. crying to home back in. so I let her in and she's been with me since :)
her fur was very stiff and spotty, now it's sleek and all black. her fleas are mostly gone (cept when she goes out and brings them back in) and she's getting fat :)

I STILL don't have a name for her, a official one anyway. it changes everyday :) anyone got any ideas? :P

I think i might be a messiah, cause i've decided to bring this thread back from the dead (just in time for easter)

And with this i will add that lately i've realized, Canadians are WAY cooler than British people.

RE: So how bout them Cubbies? - Acrobat - 03-26-2009 05:52 AM

In my experience this is true, but I think the Brits have the edge when it comes to accents.

RE: So how bout them Cubbies? - beautifulghost - 03-27-2009 02:52 PM

i think it depends on WHERE in Britain you're from, upon determining the coolness of your accent. Cause honestly Liverpoolian accents are kind of annoying. (ref. Beatles and Oasis) Leeds and Manchester are where it's at. :)

I was on the radio when it was unfolding and updated my listeners - online world wide and those listening in the Binghamton community/area about it as we got updates online.

The most stressful, sad, and difficult radio show/thing I've ever had to do. Very emotional. As you know, I am a student that loves music with a music radio show and not a journalist. tough tough tough. But I'm home now for Spring Break - left Bing right after my radio show.

Goodness, Hayley! I'm so sorry for what happened in your city.

We were on the radio when it was unfolding... and that was the hardest part for me, I'm not a journalist, I'm a student with a music show, and we updated our listeners as we got updates - just by using the internet. The school I dont think did an adequate job informing us... they were WAY TOO late to send emergency alert messages.

I was having a hard time... but I'm better now, after listening back to the audio from the show. Received a lot of compliments and support from it, so closure is there. We are on spring break now but when its over there will be a vigil on campus and I'll go to that.

My favorite red wine has always been Cabernet Sauvignon, but I think it's changing to Malbec . . .

Wait . . . that's not interesting . . . I'm going shopping for clothes tomorrow!

Good God, that's even less interesting . . .

Let's see . . .

Nope, I got nuthin' . . .

BECAUSE I EDITED IT OUT!

I caught Voltaire in El Paso, TX last night, never having heard anything by him prior to the show.  I left the family, because visiting family can be like work, needed some "me" time.  I didn't know I'd end up in a goth bar, alone, but Voltaire was pretty interesting.  Good stuff.

I'm so sad. Ours is about to start playing right now. Headlining. It's 8:30pm and they're in Chicago, but I couldn't make the trip this time. They postponed a concert that I already had tickets to (and hotel reservations), and tonight they're playing.

waaah!

Damn it.

Next time, absolutely.

RE: So how bout them Cubbies? - beautifulghost - 05-17-2009 11:45 PM

so on Friday before i headed on my eleven mile commute to work i was informed that i had a flat tire....great start to my day, then after putting air in it to temporarily resolve the issue and making it my place of employment, albeit late, i called the local garage to see if they'd come and fix it while i was doing my job (mailman) so i expected to have a new tire and be ready to roll once i was done. no such luck, upon returning from the route i inspected my car only to find it mockingly resting on the rim. So i drove it 100 feet to the gas station, put air in it once again and drove it to a tire store in town. problem solved.

bright side? i have a new tire and i could safely make it to work.
point? shit happens and you need to get over it, it's nothing personal, life sucks for everyone.

I've had a bad cold for the past two days. It's like God is out to get me personally. I can see this ruining my entire year.

Why does the universe have to focus on me all the time? Why??

Hi,
I can say that there's still a lot of time in the season. Anything can happen. You saw the Rox run at the end of last year. It was absolutely insane. Injuries, bad luck...all sorts of things can come in to play. Think of the Mets last year as well. I'm not saying it will happen, I'm just saying to watch what claims you make when there's still so much time left. They're playing well right now, so just be happy for that right now.
