I'm curious.

I don't even think I *bought* 10 albums this year.....But......I'll put on a couple.

Muse - The Resistance
Kris Allen - Self-titled
Daughtry - Leave This Town

I'm gonna put on 30 Seconds to Mars even though I dont own it yet because I LOVE the single (I cannot stop listening to it). I'm hoping to get the album for Christmas, I asked for it. Smile

Great topic, Evan! Smile

nearly finished with my cramming and on Saturday is the deadline for the Sound Opinions albums of the year poll.

My list this year hopefully will include a bunch of podcasts sharing music from all the albums on my list.

i'll have to come over here and link/post it when i finally put it up.

Oh, I really want to participate in this one. Later today, maybe?

Kyle I'm looking forward to your list (if you don't post it here, I'll just get it from mediareviews). I always find one or two new bands that I end up loving from your lists.

Sarah, I can't wait for 30 Seconds either!

ThinkTwice, there are bands on your list that pop up for me now and again that I've never heard, but need to check out: Bon Iver and Grizzly Bear.

2. The Swell Season - Strict Joy
3. Katatonia - Night Is The New Day
4. Megadeth - Endgame
5. Heaven & Hell - The Devil You Know
6. Gwynbleidd - Nostalgia
7. Swallow The Sun - New Moon
8. Baliset - A Time For Rust
9. Porcupine Tree - The Incident
10. Alice In Chains - Black Gives Way To Blue

RE: So, what are your top 10 albums of the year? - drkdglr13 - 12-21-2009

Overall, I thought it was a pretty disappointing year in music for me, but my picks include:

1. Crack the Sky - Mastodon
2. Black Gives Way To Blue - Alice In Chains
3. Blue Record - Baroness
4. Axe to Fall - Converge
5. Walking on a Dream - Empire of the Sun
6. Wavering Radiant - Isis
7. Merriweather Post Pavilion - Animal Collective
8. Hospice - Antlers
9. Veckatimest - Grizzly Bear
10. Night Is The New Day - Katatonia

This was a tough list but I think it's pretty accurate.  Like I mentioned earlier, it was mostly a disappointing year for me in new music so I spent just as much time with older releases as I did with new.  Here's to a far superior 2010!

And Sinistas, props on the metal! Nice to see a fellow fan of the genre here.

I love how everyone has different tastes of music but we all share a common bond of Jimmy/Ours. Smile I've discovered some new stuff thanks to threads like these, so for that, I thank you all.

Evan, two of those bands are from Boston (Revocation and Baliset), and worth checking out Wink

RE: So, what are your top 10 albums of the year? - jlatham - 12-21-2009

Album of the year = U2 No Line On The Horizon

RE: So, what are your top 10 albums of the year? - SarahBeth - 12-21-2009

I am an idiot for not including U2 on my list.

That is a fabulous album.

DMB's new one is good too, it lived in my CD player in my car for awhile. Smile

You know I adore the new U2 album if I pick that over big whiskey. Whiskey was a great comeback record by a band I've seen 65 times, but no line is a timeless masterpiece.

RE: So, what are your top 10 albums of the year? - Trathena - 12-21-2009

Oh! Oh! I've only listened to it once (and I was writing a paper when I was doing it). I remember enjoying it a lot, and that's why I included it in honorable mention.

I need to listen to it again very soon, it seems.

RE: So, what are your top 10 albums of the year? - jlatham - 12-21-2009

It has the experimentation of achtung baby and the soul of the joshua tree.

That's an accurate description.....

RE: So, what are your top 10 albums of the year? - Trathena - 12-21-2009

I've had this album sitting around for months, and simply forgot about it, then gave it a distracted listen, and then let it collect dust.

And you describe it this way?

I suck.

RE: So, what are your top 10 albums of the year? - jlatham - 12-21-2009

I think a lot of that album has to do with Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois being much more involved in the songwriting process than usual. I consider those two musical geniuses and that coupled with Steve Lillywhite mixing and co-producing just creates the perfect storm. I didn't mean to interrupt the album of the year thread but this effort will stay with me for decades just like the joshua tree. It's just that good.

Soulsavers - Broken
The Editors - In This Light And On This Evening
