Weathervane - New Collaboration with Paul Waaktaar-Savoy
#1
Hey all,

OK first post.  I did a search on this topic and couldn't find any reference to it so I guess you guys have been as much in the dark as we have ...

Definitions:
"You guys" = fans of Jimmy Gnecco and Ours
"We"= fans of a-ha and Savoy (in my case as well as Mr Gnecco ever since having the pleasure of experiencing him live on the a-ha farewell tour last year)

This got posted on the a-ha website today.

http://a-ha.com/news/articles/weathervane/

My assumption, possibly a large assumption, is that there's going to be a lot more of this material, so I thought this might be going to warrant a new thread?

I don't have a link for where the video/single is premiering, or anywhere you can buy it yet, but I'm pretty stoked.  Been waiting for this to see the light of day for 6 months ever since references to it were made in November by Paul's wife Lauren, and Jimmy confirmed it was something he was thinking about ... Smile Smile Smile Smile

Peace All - Hope this is happy news for you guys as much as it is for me Smile

Nice way to start my Saturday morning. I saw Jimmy last night and he mentioned he had just gotten back from Norway but didn't say why. Now we know. LOL

That is so awesome! As I watched the video I was like, "it looks like it's off a movie soundtrack," and yes, yes it is. I want more!

good tune. yesthankyoumoreplease.

Curious, what's the "Savoy" album like?

Liked that video interview with Jimmy, and the interviewer brought up the Apparatjik name with a-ha coming up, and I am another Apparatjik fan myself, although it's too bad the interviewer failed to mention Jonas Bjerre of Mew also being involved with that project.

I like it. A bit mixed, as their efforts often are, and Lauren's vocals aren't everyone's cup of tea. Overall the album's a mixture between some fairly catchy tracks like "Empty of Feeling" and the amusing "Bovine", which contrasts with the darker feeling "Shooting Spree" and emotively mellow tracks like "Isotope" ...

Overall I'd say it's worth the effort of a listen. "The Breakers" is of course great, although I have to say, I still have days when I struggle to believe it's not Paul singing a lot of the time because the vocal performance seems to match his style so well ... if I hadn't read the credits, I'd probably not have picked there was an extra vocalist on the album ...

Hope this helps!

From A-Ha News:

“Paul, ex-A-HA, and Jimmy Gnecco will perform “Weathervane” at the 27th annual Amanda Award Ceremony, which will be transmitted live on TV2 from Haugesund Concert Hall on Saturday 20 August. The Amanda Awards are part of the Norwegian International Film Festival taking place in Haugesund, Norway from 17-26 August.

“Weathervane” is the title track from the forthcoming movie Headhunters, based on the book by the internationally known Norwegian author Jo Nesbø. The movie will premiere during the festival, on 23 August, and the public premiere will be on 26 August.”

I don't have premium membership at megaupload, so this is probably going to restrict to one at a time ... but here's audio from tonight's performance at the Amanda Awards - an obviously Live vocal from Jimmy, but not sure how much else is live as a lot of the backing sounds [on dodgy PC speakers] fairly close to perfect (didn't see it, just had this delivered to my mailbox from a friend in the UK)

Slightly different mix - and think Jimmy perhaps was struggling slightly in a couple of places?

Enjoy ... Big Grin

Wow, thanks for this. Sound quality is amazing. Doesn't sound like Jimmy struggled at all to me. He nailed every note.
