Colorblind
When asked to tell the class
my favorite color, I answered
“Black.”
“Nonsense,” the art teacher said,
“Black, just like white,
is not a color.”
There is nothing better
then black to paint
the shadows formed by
the sun at dusk.
There is no other way
to describe the bottom
of a deep hole, or cave
that dips into the earth.
There is no other crayon
as popular as Black.
And if Crayola can make
Macaroni and Cheese
an acceptable color,
then surely the Black crayon
should not be forgotten.
After all, the box of crayons
does boast 64 colors;
there is no disclaimer
that the box actually contains
62 colors with the two
non-colors of White and Black.
“How can you snub a color,” I asserted,
“that is made up of every color imaginable
and yes, that includes white.”
